Whether providing evaluations, client support, service coordination, reunification planning, or therapy, our goal is to help families overcome barriers, access resources, and achieve meaningful and lasting change.
Parenting Capacity Evaluations
Parenting Capacity Evaluations are comprehensive forensic assessments designed to evaluate a parent’s ability to safely and effectively meet the emotional, developmental, psychological, educational, and physical needs of a child. These evaluations are commonly requested in Juvenile Court and Probate and Family Court matters involving custody disputes, child welfare concerns, reunification planning, allegations of abuse or neglect, or termination of parental rights proceedings. The evaluation process may include clinical interviews, review of records, collateral contacts, parent-child observations, and standardized assessment measures. The goal of the evaluation is to provide the Court and involved parties with clinically informed opinions regarding parental strengths, limitations, risks, and protective factors.
Bonding and Attachment Assessments
Bonding and Attachment Assessments evaluate the quality, strength, and nature of the relationship between a child and caregiver. These assessments are frequently utilized in matters involving foster care, adoption, guardianship, reunification, and high-conflict custody litigation. The assessment process typically includes direct observation of parent-child interaction, developmental analysis, review of collateral information, and consideration of the child’s emotional and psychological functioning within the relationship. Particular attention is given to attachment behaviors, emotional regulation, caregiver responsiveness, and the child’s sense of safety, security, and stability. The purpose of the assessment is to assist the Court in understanding the significance of the relationship and the potential impact of separation, disruption, or transition.
Social Work Advocacy
Social Work Advocacy services are designed to support children, parents, and families involved in complex child welfare and court-related matters. Advocacy may include participation in DCF meetings, communication with treatment providers, coordination with attorneys, assistance navigating behavioral health systems, and support accessing appropriate services and resources. The practice works to ensure that the needs of parents seeking reunification with their children are clearly identified, appropriately communicated, and effectively supported within systems that are often difficult to navigate. Social Work Advocacy services are individualized and may be utilized independently or in conjunction with evaluation and assessment work.
Home Studies
Home Studies are structured assessments of a proposed caregiving environment conducted in matters involving guardianship, custody, kinship placement, foster care, adoption, or reunification. These assessments evaluate the safety, stability, appropriateness, and overall functioning of the home environment as it relates to the needs of the child. The process may include home visits, caregiver interviews, review of records, collateral contacts, and assessment of family dynamics, caregiving capacity, and available supports. Home Studies are designed to provide the Court or referring party with clinically informed observations and recommendations regarding the suitability of a child's placement.
Guardian ad Litem Investigations
Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Investigations are court-appointed investigations in Probate and Family Court matters involving a study and analysis of custody, parenting time, family conflict, substance use, mental health issues, domestic violence, parental alienation, etc. The purpose of the GAL investigation is to provide the Court with independent, clinically informed information regarding what custody and parenting time arrangement is in the best interest of the child. GAL investigations typically involve interviews with parents, children, and collateral sources; review of records; home visits; and assessment of family dynamics and co-parenting dynamics. The investigation culminates in a written report with recommendations intended to assist the Court in making decisions that promote the child’s long-term emotional, developmental, and psychological well-being.
Domestic Violence Risk Assessments
Domestic violence risk assessments are specialized evaluations designed to identify the presence, severity, and potential future risk of intimate partner violence, coercive control, stalking, intimidation, and related safety concerns. These assessments may be conducted with an alleged victim, an alleged perpetrator, or both parties, depending on the referral question and circumstances of the case. At Coastal Clinicians Group, domestic violence risk assessments involve a comprehensive review of relevant records, clinical interviews, collateral information, and, when appropriate, the use of empirically supported assessment tools. Areas of inquiry may include the history and pattern of abuse and factors associated with future risk. Recommendations may include safety planning, service referrals, treatment recommendations, and other interventions designed to promote the safety and well-being of children and family members while informing legal and clinical decision-making.
Family Reunification
Family reunification planning services are designed to support the safe and successful return of children to the care of a parent or caregiver. Working collaboratively with families, attorneys, service providers, and other involved parties, we develop individualized reunification plans that identify specific goals, timelines, safety measures, social supports, and therapeutic resources. Recommendations may include ongoing service engagement, monitoring, and other safeguards intended to promote stability and reduce the risk of future disruption.
Therapy
Our therapy services provide trauma-informed, supportive psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families experiencing a wide range of personal and family challenges. Treatment is tailored to the unique needs of each client and focuses on increasing insight, strengthening coping skills, improving relationships, resolving barriers to functioning, and supporting meaningful and lasting change. Therapeutic approaches are strengths-based and solution-focused, with an emphasis on promoting emotional resilience.
